Attendance Policy: No more than three unexplained absences. Due to the large amount of time to be spent working in the laboratory, it may be difficult for the student with an excess of three absences to get the required laboratory assignments completed.

*Participation is more than mere attendance. Students will be expected to participate in class discussions and ask questions. When working on laboratory assignments in groups, each member of the group will be expected to contribute equally.

Quality - what is it and why is it important?

What is a standard specification and how is it used? (Performance specifications and design specifications)

Labeling, trade names and trademarks

Sampling, getting reliable test results, inspection processes

Contents of a standard test method

Test methods for textiles:

Fiber testing - fiber identification, length, fineness, shape, etc.
Yarn testing - size, structure, twist, strength, etc.
Fabric testing - tensile testing (stress and strain), burst tests, tear tests, abrasion and wear, appearance retention, colorfastness testing, dimensional stability, flammability, water absorbency, objective and subjective measures of fabric hand, etc.

Stitch, seam, seam finish and thread quality

Closure and trim quality

Garment shaping and support device quality

Sizing and fit

Developing and writing a specification (final project)

Yarn size and strength

Tensile tests for fabrics

            - fabric grab test
