Course Description: Fashion Merchandising is an overview of the fashion business. The creative, marketing and career opportunities of the industry will be explored. The fundamentals of the fashion cycle will be discussed. The raw materials which go into fashion will be covered, and the manufacturing process outlined. Time will also be spent examining sales reports and their required calculations. The workings of a retail store will round out Fashion Merchandising.
Course Objectives:
To acquire knowledge of the field of fashion merchandising.
To become aware of the production and distribution process of textiles and apparel.
To become familiar with global issues confronting the textile and apparel industry.
To demonstrate an ability and understanding of the mathematical calculations required in the merchandising field.
Course Policy:
The course structure includes a great deal of discussion and group interaction, therefore good attendance is highly recommended. When absent from class it is the student's responsibility to determine what material was missed. Arrangements will need to be made with fellow classmates to get notes.
Assignments and projects are due when noted by the professor. Work not turned in when due will be penalized 5% each day late.
Exams are given at scheduled times. Only extreme emergencies will constitute a "good excuse". In most cases a different exam will be given as a make-up exam.
