Students will be allowed a two day grace period to turn in late projects. After that time, grade points will be deducted for late assignments at a rate of 5% per day late. If any student feels that they are unable to complete a project by its due date because of extenuating circumstances, please be sure to discuss the problem with the instructor BEFORE THE ASSIGNMENT IS OVERDUE to avoid the loss of grade points. This policy WILL be strictly enforced this semester! It is for your own benefit to remain up-to-date with assignments, to avoid becoming overwhelmed with an excess of work left to complete at the end of the semester. If you are having difficulty keeping up, PLEASE come and discuss this with your instructor ASAP so we can work on a way to assist you before it becomes too overwhelming!!

Explanation of Sewing Projects

At least ONE of the following projects must be a garment constructed for yourself to provide you with the opportunity to learn to fit your own body correctly. You WILL be graded on your ability to do this on a project.

Sewing Project 1 - This project is to be a lined garment of your choice, i.e. an item such as a jacket , skirt or pair of pants or dress shorts. The garment may be partially or fully lined, and may be underlined, interlined, or lined. Please do NOT select an easy pattern, but rather something with some degree of difficulty and involvement. It would be advisable to discuss your choice with the instructor BEFORE purchasing it.
Sewing Project 2 - This project is to be a garment that can be constructed on a serger. It is advisable to select a pattern designed for construction using a serger or overlock machine (most pattern companies now produce such patterns) - these patterns are usually quite clearly labeled in the pattern catalogs (see the active sportswear category in most catalogs). It would be a good idea to discuss your ideas or your choice with your instructor BEFORE purchasing your pattern.
Sewing Project 3 - This project can be a garment (or other constructed project) of your choice, and may include a knitted or crocheted project. Be sure to select something with a degree of difficulty appropriate for a final project in an advanced level class. As for your other projects, it would be wise to discuss your choice with your instructor BEFORE purchase.

All projects will be graded on the following:

        - correct technique

        - neatness

        - pressing

        - appropriateness of fabric or material for project

        - fit (when appropriate)

        - degree of difficulty

Study Guide for Final Exam
