Critically Thinking About Media and Our World
This course introduces students to the methods and skills necessary when critically evaluating messages, especially those found in the modern media.  Students will study the process of reasonable, reflective, responsible thinking; will evaluate arguments and evidence from a wide variety of sources; will develop, refine, and defend reasonable positions; and will apply those skills when assessing the content of today’s media including: books, newspapers, magazines, radio, television, the Internet, and others. In addition, students will examine issues found in the modern media and present their findings to the class.

Office Hours/Location:
Ross Hall 422,  11:00-12:30 T/R

Research Interests:
I am interested in researching, topics that deal with marketing and advertising and interpersonal communication/relationships. They are very different but I am fascinated with areas in both of them. My thesis focused on marital satisfaction and how husbands and wives experience satisfaction differently. The results were very interesting and not necessarily what one might expect.

Favorite...

Book: Measure of a Man, by Sidney Poitier
  Band: Counting Crows
Movie: Not really sure....most people I know pick favorites that are deep with a lot of meaning. I honestly fall asleep almost everytime I watch a movie. A couple I thought were fun (and stayed awake for) are 50 First Dates and The Holiday.
Quote: Happiness is when what you THINK, what you SAY, and what you DO are in harmony. -Ghandi
Saying: At last the ladder, which had been built slowly, slowly, one hope at a time, reached up to the clouds. And the dreamer began to climb.
