Primary text will be: Hall, Finkelman, Ely. American Legal History: Cases and Materials. 4th ed. (Oxford, 2011).
Additional readings will include cases and materials in Wyoming legal history, available on the web after Aug. 10.
April 27, 2013: Phil was guest speaker at the Washakie Museum and Cultural Center, Worland. His topic was a comparative consideration of oil development in two regions of the world.
April 25, 2013:Phil was a co-panelist for a live broadcast forum on the Second Amendment and its influence on Wyoming politics. The program was broadcast statewide by Wyoming Public Television
April 24, 2013: Phil spoke to an American history class at LCCC, Albany County campus, on the Wyoming Constitution.
April 23, 2013: Phil was interviewed for the Travel Channel on the general topic of the history of Ames Monument, located in the Laramie Range, east of Laramie. The segment will be broadcast later in 2013.
April 21, 2013: Phil was speaker for the April meeting of the Laramie County Historical Society in Cheyenne. He talked about Wyoming during World War I and how federal espionage and sedition acts were used in Wyoming and often abused.
April 13, 2013: Phil spoke to the annual convention of the AAUW in Casper on the history of the pay differentials between men and women in Wyoming.
April 9, 2013: Phil spoke to the Wyoming Archaeological Society in Laramie on the history of Shoshone Cavern National Monument and how the delisting and transfer of the site fit into the long-term debate over federal and state control over public lands. The cavern history was the subject of Phil's book, Cody's Cave: National Monuments and the Politics of Public Lands in the 20th Century West, published last year.
April 2, 2013: Phil was the lead-off speaker for this year's Laramie Lyceum, a twice-annual series of lectures held over four Tuesdays in April and October. His topic was the history of the Fort D. A. Russell Target and Maneuver Range, sometimes referred to as the Pole Mountain military reserve, used by the army from the 1890s to 1949 and a part used by the Wyoming National Guard as its summer training camp from 1924-1937.
March 27, 2013: Phil spoke to Patty Kessler's History of Wyoming class at LCCC, Albany County branch, about the Wyoming Constitution and how delegates drew from Gilded Age abuses in drafting many of the articles.
March 10, 2013: "End of Track," a documentary on the construction of the transcontinental railroad through Wyoming, premiered on Wyoming Public Television. Phil appears in several interview segments in the film.
March 2013: Phil traveled to London and Edinburgh to conduct historical research. He also spent time in the United Arab Emirates.
March 2013: Phil was recognized by the Laramie Plains Museum as a "benefactor." He received a certificate and his name included on an honor roster in the museum lobby. Over the years, Phil was a museum board member and volunteer as well as serving as a volunteer host/guide for a "Wyoming History on the Road" tour sponsored by the museum in the summer of 2012.
Sept. 19, 2010: Wyoming Almanac was featured in a Casper Star-Tribune by reporter Kristy Gray. Douglas Garwood added an extended video of the interview, on which the story is based, on the Casper Star-Tribune webcam.
Readings in Wyoming History contains an essay on the Wyoming Constitutional Convention and adoption of the Wyoming Constitution in 1889. See also: WYOMING CONSTITUTION
