DIVISION OF KINESIOLOGY AND HEALTH

The Division of Kinesiology and Health promotes an environment of excellence and achievement in kinesiology and health promotion, kinesiology and health promotion-athletic training, and physical education teacher education, with emphasis on the rural needs of Wyoming.

WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR, MARK BYRA, Ph.D.

Welcome to the Division of Kinesiology and Health!  We offer a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology and health, with specializations in kinesiology and health promotion (K&HP), kinesiology and health promotion-athletic training (K&HP-AT), and physical education teacher education (PHET).  All three specializations are four-year degree programs.

The K&HP program contains the largest number of majors in the division — 250.  Students in this program can pursue the areas of athletic training, biomechanics, exercise and sport psychology, exercise physiology, fitness across the lifespan, and motor development.  The K&HP program is an excellent preprofessional program for students seeking to enter the field of medicine, specifically to become a physician, physician assistant, occupational therapist, physical therapist, dentist, optometrist, ophthalmologist, chiropractor, or other related occupation in medicine.

The K&HP-AT option prepares students to enter the profession of athletic training.  The certified athletic trainer is qualified to provide health care to the physically active in a variety of practice settings.  The Division of Kinesiology and Health has received "Candidacy" with the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Athletic Training (JRC-AT).

The PHET program is a nationally recognized program for the integration of theory and practice.  Approximately 100 students are enrolled in the PHET program.  It is a NCATE/NASPE certified program that prepares students to teach at all levels, K–12.  Placement of PHET program graduates is near 100 percent.

The division also offers a master of science degree in kinesiology and health, thesis and nonthesis tracks, with specializations in biomechanics, exercise and sport psychology, exercise physiology, fitness across the lifespan, health, motor development, and physical education teacher education.  Students can pursue the master of science degree on a full-time or part-time basis, on- or off-campus.
