Kinesiology is the study of human movement. Physical activity serves many functions that kinesiologists may study in both descriptive (what is) and prescriptive (what might be) ways. The types of movements that are the subject of scrutiny in kinesiology are symbolic movement (physical activity that expresses thoughts and feelings through the symbolic medium of the body), supportive movement (physical activity of a functional nature necessary to support a health-related lifestyle), and sportive movement (athletic activity with an emphasis on skill-related physical activity). |

Health Promotion aims to enhance people's capacity for living and quality of life. Determinants of health (i.e., personal behavior, social and physical environment, and genetics) are assessed for a population, then purposeful activities are employed that are designed to improve personal and public (i.e., groups and populations of people) health through a combination of strategies, including the competent implementation of health education, behavior change strategies, health protection measures, risk factor detection, and health enhancement and health maintenance. |
