July 21, 2006 -- A bitter rivalry to control Wyoming's dinosaur bones will be depicted in the Wyoming Writing Project's original play, "Wyoming's Dinosaur Wars" Thursday, July 27, at 8 p.m. and Friday, July 28, during an 8 p.m. dinner theatre performance. Both shows are at the Trading Post in Centennial.

Seating in both the restaurant and the playhouse is limited, so reservations are required. For more information call (307) 766-6486 or (307) 742-7731. A free dance with music by Jack Wallace and the Half-Stops will immediately follow Friday's performance.

"Edward Cope and Charles Marsh made their reputations as paleontologists in the Como Bluffs area of Wyoming during the 1800s, but those reputations remain questionable and controversial to this day," says Connie Currie, Wyoming Writing Project (WWP) director in the University of Wyoming Department of English. "Cope and Marsh began as friends and colleagues, but they quickly developed a bitter rivalry based on ego, professional reputation and money. Como Bluffs became their battleground."

She says "Wyoming's Dinosaur Wars" will explore several facets -- some humorous, some not -- of this personal and scientific conflict. Participants in the annual WWP scripted and will perform in the play.

Each summer for the last 25 years, Wyoming teachers, administrators and those searching for enrichment have been invited to attend the month-long WWP workshop, offered to improve writing, writing instruction and self-expression skills.

The WWP is sponsored by the National Writing Project and the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office.
