April 12, 2006 -- The University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra's (UWSO) 2005-06 concert season will close with "Voices from the Stage," Thursday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center concert hall.

Tickets for the performance are on sale now at both the UW Fine Arts and Wyoming Union box offices, by calling (307) 766-6666, or online at www.uwyo.edu/FineArts. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $6 for students and $7 for senior citizens.

Narrated by Peter Parolin, associate professor in the Department of English, "Voices" will feature moving scenes from UWSO Music Director Michael Griffith's favorite operas. Vocalist Katrina Zook, selected student soloists, the Collegiate Chorale and the Laramie/UW Civic Chorus will join the UWSO for the performance.

The orchestra will play pieces from "Samson and Delilah" and "Cavalleria Rusticana," followed by a performance by Zook from "Carmen." Tenor Leandro Lacava and the choruses, entering to a processional march from "Tannhauser," will then join Zook for a scene from "La Traviata."

Lacava, the choruses, and UW students Miriam Iams, Alicia Roberts, and Adriano Oliveira, will also perform pieces from "West Side Story," "Anvil Chorus," "Magic Flute," "Don Pasquale," and "Prince Igor."

Zook, a mezzo-soprano, earned a doctor of musical arts in vocal performance from the Eastman School of Music, where she also received the Performer's Certificate in Voice. She was the resident alto soloist for three seasons with the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival, and has premiered several 20th century vocal works for the Prisms New Music Ensemble, the Los Angeles Composer's Forum and the International Computer Music Society. She performed two seasons ago with the UWSO.

Brazilian baritone Adriano Oliveira started his operatic career in 1999. In July 2000, Oliveira won a scholarship to the International Opera Summer Program at the Institute of Vocal Arts of Israel. Now living in the United States, Oliveira is pursuing his master's degree in vocal performance at UW.

UWSO donors are First Interstate Bank, American National Bank and the Symphony Association for the University of Wyoming.
