Nov. 4, 2008 -- Four University of Wyoming students have received Jane L. Tanner Study Abroad awards to study overseas. The award provides financial assistance to undergraduate students in the UW Department of English. Three will study in London during spring semester, and one will study in Greece next summer. This year's recipients are Angela Kisse, Eric Lihammar and Deborah Sneed, all of Cheyenne, and Alyssa Worley of Worland. Kisse, a sophomore, will use the Tanner Award to help pay for costs associated with the 2009 Spring Semester in London. Lihammar is a junior who also will study in London. He plans to use the award for the costs of everyday living, as well as traveling to the Poet's Corner and visiting the English countryside. In addition, the award will help cover overall program costs. Sneed, a senior, will study in Athens, Greece. While there, she will excavate the ancient Athenian Agora (the civic, economic, political, commercial center of ancient Athens) for two months next summer. Worley, a junior, will study in London. She plans to use the award for the overall program cost, which includes renting a flat and buying a rail pass. She also will use the award for travel expenses. Award recipients must be undergraduates with at least sophomore standing who have a 3.0 grade point average or better. This award can fund up to 80 percent of the cost to study abroad. Upon their return to the United States, these students will report what they learned to the Tanner family.
