May 1, 2008 -- Terry Tempest Williams, the University of Wyoming's first Eminent Writer-in-Residence in the Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing, will host "Weather Map: A Briefing on the Weather Reports," Monday, May 5, from noon-2 p.m., in the Wyoming Union Family Room.

The free event culminates the "Weather Reports" project intended to "take the pulse of a community," Williams says.

Williams and M.F.A. in Creative Writing students have traveled to seven Wyoming communities to read their works, offer writing workshops for community members, and engage Wyomingites in what it means to live in their corners of Wyoming.

The "Weather Reports" have garnered national attention, including an April 20 opinion article in the New York Times by Alexandra Fuller. She refers to the Weather Reports as an "unprecedented experiment in the art of listening."

At "Weather Map: A Briefing on the Weather Reports," Williams and M.F.A. students will discuss their findings from each community, share writing and open the forum to a discussion.

Author of "Refuge" and other works, Williams is an award-winning writer and wilderness advocate who has written on nature and culture. She has been credited with starting national conversations about the importance of dissent.

Williams' latest book, "Mosaic: Finding Beauty in a Broken World," will be released this year.
