Oct. 18, 1999 -- The nation's largest professional arts organization is recognizing Cedric D. Reverand, professor in the University of Wyoming Department of English and director of Cultural Programs, for his exemplary service to performing arts.

He received the Betty Connors Award from the Western Arts Alliance (WAA), given "in recognition of extensive and exemplary volunteer service of unusual or extraordinary significance to the western performing arts field."

In the 10 years in which the Connors award has been given, this marks only the second time that the recipient has been someone outside the state of California, and the first time it has been granted to a person from the Rocky Mountain region.

The award citation describes Reverand as "dedicated to service to WAA and to the development of the performing arts in the West, tireless in using the resources of his position to assist smaller presenters throughout his state, and perpetually creative in finding ways to expand the horizons of his audiences and those in neighboring communities."

Reverand has served as Cultural Programs director for more than 20 years. He joined the UW Department of English faculty in 1971 and was promoted to full professor in 1982. Reverand received a B.A. degree at Yale University in 1963, an M.A. degree at Columbia University in 1964, and a Ph.D. degree at Cornell University in 1972.
