Acclaimed Writer to Visit UW

Sept. 25, 2007 -- Pulitzer Prize nominated writer Joy Williams will present a free book reading and signing Monday, Oct. 1, at the University of Wyoming.

The reading begins at 5:10 p.m. in Room 214 of the UW Classroom Building. Following her talk, Williams will answer questions and sign books.

Williams is the author of four novels, including "The Quick and the Dead," which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. She has received a Guggenheim fellowship, a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts and the Harold and Mildred Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Her latest book, "Honored Guest," is a collection of short stories.

Williams' talk is presented by the UW Master of Fine Arts Program's Visiting Writer Series, an endowment from the state and a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council, through funding from the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The MFA graduate creative program is to mentor a new generation of writers. The program's Visiting Writers Series brings distinguished authors to Wyoming each semester.
