UW Employees Honored at Staff Recognition Day

March 22, 2007 -- More than 200 employees were honored Thursday for their years of service and contributions to the University of Wyoming.

The annual Staff Recognition Day, sponsored by UW Staff Senate with support from the UW Office of the President, is intended to encourage and acknowledge all UW staff members.

Fawn Killion, senior office assistant in the Department of Art, received the "Outstanding Employee of the Year" award, sponsored by Pepsi and UniWyo Federal Credit Union.

Carolyn Abernethy, library specialist with the Library Technical Services, and Robert Trumbull, UW Postal Services manager, each received the E.G. Meyer Family Outstanding Staff Service Award.

UW Foundation awards for extraordinary service were presented to Bruce Parrill, taxes and investments manager, and Ron Reed, Wyoming Union facilities and grounds attendant.

Patricia Romero, senior accounting associate in the Department of English, received the Jody Humphrey Inspirational Staff Award.

UW Staff Incentive awards were presented to Ted Brummond, Photo Service manager, Kathleen Bobbitt, associate director in Student Financial Aid, and Dale Pribyl, Physical Plant electrician.

The Skilled Crafts/Services awards were presented to Curtis Wasinger, upholsterer/institutional locksmith, and Gary Marshall, facilities and grounds attendant II, both in Physical Plant.

Unsung Hero full-time awards were presented to Sheralyn Farnham, business analyst with Executive Central Business Analysis, and Lora Steele-Hicks, senior office assistant in the Department of English. Unsung Hero part-time awards went to Jonas Slonaker, test center coordinator for the University Testing Center, and Adrienne Szabady, office assistant in the Department of Music.

UW Off-campus awards were presented to Byron Nelson, Sheridan Research and Extension Center farm manager, and Jennifer Jacobsen, CES/EFNEP Programs project coordinator in Jackson.

Advocate of Staff Awards, for those who go "above and beyond" regular work duties to further the mission the university, were presented to Alexander's Fine Jewelry; ALSCO; UW Bookstore; UW Copy Center; Eagle Rock Pottery; Ned Feldbush, executive computer support specialist with Human Resources; Harold Martinez, facilities/grounds manager with Residence Life and Dining Services; Nancy Nichols, visual communications manager with Public Relations; Milton Ontiveroz, media relations coordinator with Public Relations; UW Office of the President; Pepsi Cola Company; UW Physical Plant; Pete Simpson, former UW administrator and professor emeritus; and UniWyo Federal Credit Union.

Bruce A. Parrill was honored for 40 years of service to the university and Marlin W. Rambo was recognized for 35 years.

Awards for 30 years of service were presented to Jerry W. Andersen, Joan Marie Downham, Steven G. Hodder, James A. Johnson, Monte Scott Johnson, Katherine F. Keeney, Dolores Rosalie Martinez, Joseph G. Southards, Diane Howe Trotter, Karen H. White and Gloria A. Youmans.

Awards for 25 years of service to UW were presented to Michael Dean Allen, Beverly M. Arellano, Julie A. Beckett, Robert K. Berwick, Linda Rae Brooks, William F. Craigie, Barbara Ann Farmer, Alice D. Freeman, Roxanne Glassburn, Gail L. Hankin, Robert Hanlon Jr., Loree Hanson-Wetstein, William J. Higgins III, Debra J. Meryhew, Alice P. Miller, Martha J. Miller, Josie P. Montez, Tony Bay Pedersen, Dale E. Pribyl, Scott E. Royce, Sylvia A. Sanchez and Rick Walters.
