Feb. 26, 2002 -- Mark Jenkins, the first McGaw Hull visiting writer in the University of Wyoming Department of English, will read from his new book, "The Hard Way," Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m, in the American Heritage Center Stock Growers' Room.

Jenkins' presentation will include a retrospective slide show of his travel adventures in remote parts of the world. The visiting writer position was donated by a retired Laramie grade school teacher, who prefers to remain anonymous, to honor one of her former sixth grade students, Keith Hull.

Hull, a scholar and playwright, taught in the UW Department of English, and served two terms as department chairman, from 1969-2000. Because the donor left her home state of Missouri to teach in Wyoming, her endowment sponsors a writer living west of the Mississippi to teach a one credit course in the English department every two years.

"The award is especially important to me because I graduated from the University of Wyoming two decades ago with the basic tools to make my way into the world" says Jenkins. "Now I have the chance to pass on what I've learned."
