UW Television Program Looks at Middle East

Printable Article Email this Article

Sept. 24, 2002 Consequences of taking military action against Iraq will be among issues discussed during an informational television program that can be seen at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, on KCWC, Wyoming Public Television.

Francois Dickman, former U.S. ambassador to Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, will be a guest on the monthly University of Wyoming magazine "Wyoming Signatures." He will explain why Middle Eastern countries would fear destabilization of the region as the result of an American invasion of Iraq, more than they fear weapons of mass destruction Saddam Hussein allegedly has at his disposal.

Also on Sunday's program Pat McClurg, dean of the UW College of Education, will tell how the federal "no child left behind" legislation will affect Wyoming teachers.

And Colin Keeney, lecturer in the UW Department of English, will explain how Owen Wister's "The Virginian" romanticized and popularized the American West, inspired an avalanche of imitations in literature, film and TV, and why it remains a good read today. The novel is 100 years old this year.

University of Wyoming Television produces "Wyoming Signatures." KCWC can be seen off air or via cable in several Wyoming communities, including Casper, Cheyenne, Laramie, Riverton, Lander, Rock Springs, Green River, Powell, Cody, Sheridan, Gillette, Jackson, Pinedale, and Big Piney. Check local listings for specific channel information.
