Distinguished Novelist Francine Prose to Visit Laramie Oct. 2 |

Sept. 22, 2006 -- Acclaimed novelist and essayist Francine Prose will give a free public reading at 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2, in the meeting room of the Albany County Public Library, 310 S. 8th St.
Prose, a guest in the University of Wyoming Creative Writing Program's Visiting Writers Series, is the author of 14 fiction books including "Blue Angel," a finalist for the 2000 National Book Award, and "A Changed Man," published in 2005. A film version of her novel "Household Saints" appeared in 1993.
In her newest work, "Reading Like a Writer," Prose offers a passionate and humorous insider's look at how professionals read and write.
Prose also is a respected art critic, author of a biography of the painter Caravaggio, and regular art contributor for the Wall Street Journal. Her book "The Lives of the Muses" (2002), about nine women and the art they inspired, was a national bestseller.
Her stories, reviews and essays have appeared in Atlantic Monthly, Best American Short Stories, The New Yorker, and The New York Times. Prose's many honors include Guggenheim and Fulbright fellowships, two NEA grants and a PEN prize for translation.
She has taught literature and writing for more than 20 years at major universities including Harvard, Iowa and Columbia.
