Use of UW Extension’s Food and Nutrition Website Continues to Expand
Situation
The Internet has become an indispensable resource for professionals in most fields and for the general public. Although other avenues of communication and education remain important, offering information and programming via the Web is essential to comprehensive outreach.
Inputs
A work group* of county- and state-based UW CES educators is responsible for maintaining and expanding the UW Extension Food and Nutrition Web site at http://www.uwyo.edu/cesnutrition. The following are key points related to the group’s activities and the site’s use for 2004:
Activity data: From October 2003 - September 2004, web server software
collected and compiled monthly data related to the site’s activity.
Site
expansion and improvements: Examples include reorganization of site
descriptions to be more useful to visitors and addition of photos and
graphics to enhance visual appeal.
Promotion: The group periodically promotes site changes and features to UW FCS educators for distribution in their counties.
Outputs
Popular pages
The most popular pages have been the Food and Nutrition Publications, Wyoming Food Safety Coalition (WFSC), and Default Page. Most visitors enter the site via the main default page.
Use & trends
Three sets of data illustrate use of the Web site and indicate trends October 2003- September 2004:
Total Number of Visitors
Table 1 shows the number of visitors to the website each month between
October 2003 and September 2004. An average of 758 people visited the site
each month. This represents almost a three-fold increase over the average
number of visitors in 2002 (246).

Table 2 shows that the total number of pages viewed during October 2003 - September 2004 was 72,276 for an average of 6023
pages per month.
