Richard C. McGinity

Bill Daniels Chair of Business Ethics
University of Wyoming
College of Business
Laramie, WY 82071

Dr. Richard McGinity is the Bill Daniels Chair of Business Ethics at the University of Wyoming and in charge of a state-wide business ethics initiative.

Dr. McGinity received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Princeton University. After serving as a Naval Aviator during the Viet Nam conflict, he earned an MBA and DBA at Harvard Business School. His doctoral work focused on finance and competitive economics in commodity-based industries, and included over 30 case studies used in MBA and executive education courses.

Following his studies he was a partner in a Boston-based venture capital fund until starting his own investment banking firm in 1986, which serves primarily private firms whose owners are seeking growth, capital, acquisitions or exit.

He has been an active board member of numerous privately-owned and publicly traded companies. Most recently he served as Chairman at Canada Southern Petroleum Ltd. where he led that company's successful defense against a hostile takeover attempt by Petro-Canada. From his 25 years of board experience he has learned that effective corporate governance and a culture of ethical decision making go together: the absence of one makes achieving the other difficult or impossible. He is eager to bring this perspective to the classroom and the College's outreach efforts.

Dr. McGinity is a board member of the Wyoming Business Council, an owner of an historic guest ranch north of Dubois, and committed to helping preserve the history and natural beauty of Wyoming.
