What is the ASSW?
The ASSW (Association of Student Social Workers) is a student organization dedicated to furthering the development and enrichment of social work students, as they grow into informed and competent professionals. Furthermore, the organization recognizes its responsibility to promote the quality and unity of the UW Social Work Division. The goals and purposes of the ASSW are as follows: The ASSW shall serve as a setting for students involvement in the Social Work Division, as well as University, College, and community concerns regarding social welfare and human services. In addition, we seek better relationships with fellow human service students, faculty and other organizations on campus.
What does the ASSW do?
The ASSW takes an active part in
networking both within the Division of Social Work and with the community at
large. A student-faculty representative is selected each year to attend all
faculty meetings and keep the students informed of all administrative decisions
affecting the Division. The organization also selects members to serve on
various committees and positions requested by the administration. ASSW
also brings in professionals from the community at large to address issues of
interest to the membership The ASSW also provides opportunities for social
gatherings which enable students, faculty, administration, and community
professionals to interact, giving valuable networking opportunities
