Student Enrichment and Travel Scholarship Opportunities
 

Women’s Studies encourages our students, both majors and minors, to actively pursue professional and activist development through the attendance and participation at seminars, workshops and professional meetings.  
 

Women’s Studies will provide (subject to the availability of funds) the costs for transportation, registration and/or fees for attendance at feminist conferences. Requests for travel funds will be evaluated at the time of request. The requests for travel funds will be evaluated on a rolling basis (i.e. there is no due date).

To apply, complete the application and return to the Women's Studies office at Ross 102.  The application can be obtained on-line or can be picked up from the Women's  Studies office, Ross Hall 102.

Susan McKay Fund for
Women & Girls, Armed Conflict, and Peace

 

The Women’s Studies Program is pleased to offer funding to promote research and programming that addresses women and girls, armed conflict, and peace. This program is made possible through the generous initial contribution of Dr. Susan McKay, and subsequent donations from friends of Women’s Studies. Please see the program specifics below for more details and the application process.

Purpose:  To help support scholarly, teaching, and programmatic initiatives that promote the development and dissemination of information regarding:

1) The effects of contemporary international armed conflicts on women and girls; and/or
2) International, national, regional, or local non-governmental or grassroots’ organizations initiatives to proactively address these effects.

Although a broad range of projects will be considered, the following are examples of the teaching, research, and community interests that this fund is intended to address:

  •  a study of how armed conflict promotes sex trafficking of girls and women

  • a comparative analysis in two geo-political regions affected by armed conflict of women’s peace building initiatives 

  • a project intended to develop the applicant’s ability to teach curricular content about experiences of women/girls in armed conflict during the past decade, with emphasis on non-State actors

  • an analysis of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 as to progress that has made in any one subsection of the document

  • an expert speaker who will give public presentations about topics such as the above. 

Awards:   Faculty and graduate students: A maximum of $500 per application.  Undergraduates, staff, and Wyoming residents: $200/application. 

Types of Support/Limitations:  The fund seeks to enhance feminist research and dissemination of research findings regarding women & girls, armed conflict, and peace.  Recipients may be from any unit on campus as well as from throughout the state of Wyoming.

The following types of expenses can be covered by this award: 

  • Faculty scholarship/research support, including travel, equipment, supplies
    and other purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.

  • Graduate student thesis/dissertation support including travel, equipment,
    supplies and other purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.

  • Undergraduate project support including travel, equipment, supplies and other
    reasonable purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.

  • Community/campus support for programming such as guest speakers,
    including travel, equipment, supplies and other reasonable purchases if all of such items are directly related to the purposes of the fund.

Application Process:  To apply, complete the application form and return to Ross Hall 100.  The application is available on-line or can be picked up in the Women's Studies main office, Ross Hall 100.
