RESEARCH INTERESTS

I am interested in the application of light stable isotopes (C, N, H, O) to animal physiology and ecology. I am particularly interested in 1) the physiological processes that underlie many of the patterns we see in nature, 2) applying stable isotopes to diet reconstruction, and 3) using stable isotopes to track migration and determine wintering grounds in neotropical birds and migratory game birds that breed in the United States.

CURRENT PROJECTS include:

Using stable isotopes to investigate nutrient requirements and isotopic incorporation in hummingbirds, isotopic incorporation and tissue response to fasting in Nile tilapia, differentiating wild and stocked trout populations, and differentiating the Eastern and Western subspecies of White-winged Doves that breed in North America using Microsatellite DNA and isotopes to determine their wintering grounds in southern Mexico.
