NEW!!! Readings in Wyoming History contains a new essay on the Wyoming Constitutional Convention and adoption of the Wyoming Constitution in 1889.
Dec. 28, 2009: Phil returned from the United Arab Emirates where he completed research on a manuscript on oil development.
Dec. 3, 2009: Phil traveled to Sublette County to present three programs on various aspects of the history of Wyoming oil and gas development. The programs, sponsored by the Wyoming Council for the Humanities, were held at the Jonah Field camp in southern Sublette County.
Nov. 20, 2009: Phil spoke to the Wyoming Geological Society in Casper. He presented a general informal history of oil in Wyoming from the 1830s to 1931. The luncheon meeting was at the Casper Petroleum Club.
Nov. 19, 2009: Phil attended the dedication ceremonies for the new addition to Coe Library. He was shown speaking about the value of libraries on a video produced for the event by Nancy Marlatt of the library staff.
Nov. 17, 2009: Phil was guest speaker in Rawlins at the Carbon County Higher Education Center's symposium series titled "Power of Place: Treasures of Carbon County." He spoke on the development of mine safety in Wyoming, specifically with respect to labor organizations.
Nov. 5, 2009: Phil attended a reception sponsored by Mortar Board and held at the home of UW President Tom Buchanan. Phil was one of a number of UW faculty nominated Mortar Board's "Top Profs" for 2009.
Oct. 28, 2009: Phil spoke to Patty Kessler's U. S. History class on the Wyoming Constitution.
October 2009: Phil's article titled "A Hospital at the Hot Springs: The Politics of Locating Veterans' Health Facilities in Wyoming," appeared in the summer 2009 issue of Annals of Wyoming.
April 22, 2009: The Department of History held its annual awards banquet at the Historic Laramie Railroad Depot. See photos of the event.
