Me, in ancient times at the
Ontario Mountain Bike Championships 1994

Short Bio:

I was born and raised in central Ontario, and lived in Peterborough, Ontario until I was 26. I graduated high-school in 1982 from Adam Scott C.V.I., in Peterborough. After a false start at university (too much fun, too little school), I worked at various McDonald's Restaurants in the Peterborough area as an assistant manager before beginning my undergraduate degree in 1985. I attended Trent University in my hometown, where I earned my B.Sc. (Honours Economics) in 1990. From there I moved to Guelph, Ontario to get my M.A. (Economics) in 1992 from the University of Guelph, and then to Hamilton, Ontario for my Ph.D. where I graduated in 1997 from McMaster University. In 1995, I moved to Sudbury, Ontario where I began my first full-time teaching position in the Department of Economics at Laurentian University. The summer of 1997 found me on the move again, heading "Stateside" to a new job at the the University of Wyoming in the Department of Economics and Finance. While visiting Laramie for an interview at UW, I met my future wife Anne Alexander, a lecturer in the College of Business. We were married October 9th, 1997. In my spare time, I enjoy cycling, both road and mountain biking, hiking, and camping with my wife and dogs.  From 1999-2004, I was coach of the University of Wyoming Cycling Team , which competed at the Division I level.  In 2003 I earned tenure at Wyoming and celebrated by wrecking my road bike and my body in an ill-fated attempt to begin a bike-racing comeback. Total damage when it was all said and done was a concussion, 3 broken ribs, a broken back and an extended hospital stay.  On the plus side, I was able to achieve an unofficial speed record down a local hill, achieving 88 kph (approx 58 mph) just prior to my crash.  Since this idiotic incident I decided that bike racing was a little too dangerous so instead I've decided to try racing cars.  Up to this point there have been no significant accidents to report, though nothing of any significance has been attempted either.  I did campaign a 1999 Miata regionally in SCCA sanctioned autocrosses in 2007 and will attempt more expensive, and quicker auto-related pursuits in the coming year.   What else do I do when not spending money on cars, working on cars or trying to break cars?  I guess there's work, but that would hardly interest anyone if I described it, would it?  To find out a bit more about my interests, check out my special interest links below.

Music (Beware!):
Yes, my tastes are still mired in the past - 1980 and 1990s hard-rock and early metal, bright guitars and pounding bass.  Here's a few places to hear some of the good stuff.  When I'm feeling a little more "mature" I might listen to a little jazz too.  Oscar Peterson and the Modern Jazz Quartet are favourites...

General Interest:  for the newshound, talk-radio junkie.

Favourite TV Shows: Still stuck in the past - thank goodness for DVD collections!
