During the Business Meeting, the attendees decided to officially create the International Organization for Targumic Study (IOTS).
The President of the IOTS for the next three years--elected by acclamation--will be Ernest Clarke, Professor Emeritus of the University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada. An Executive Board was also elected. In addition to President Clarke, the members of the board are: Michael L. Klein of the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem, Israel; Roger Syren of the Abo Akademi in Finland; Philip Alexander of the University of Manchester in Manchester, England; and Paul V. M. Flesher of the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, USA.
The next conference of the IOTS will be in Oslo, Norway in the summer of 1998 in association with the International Organization for the Study of the Old Testament. The IOTS will hold its sessions on July 30-31. (The IOSOT will hold theirs on August 2-7.) The IOTS welcomes paper proposals. These should be sent to Professor Clarke at the following address:
