          SPECIAL FIELD ASSIGNMENT DUE:
Sex/Gender: Cross-Cultural Comparison
There is a great cross-cultural variation in the ways in which
gender is socially constructed and about the meaning of being a
woman and man. In fact, it maybe difficult to talk about social
construction of gender apart from the social context in which it
occurs; race/ethnicity, class, culture, religion are important in
yielding an adequate understanding of the social construction of
gendered people. Your assignment, if you choose to take it, is to
investigate:
Cross-cultural differences in the social construction of
gender (HOW ONE DOES woman and/or man in other societies)

A. List the two societies you are comparing. For example: Hispanic
and German; Japanese and American; East African and Arabic.
B. Use any six (6) of the concepts below [use any sources you find
useful to ground your discussion]. If these concepts don't work in
your society, explain why not.
The paper is to be typed and carefully edited. Creativity and
elegance of style are welcomed!!!
