There is a great cross-cultural variation in the ways in which gender is socially constructed and about the meaning of being a woman and man. In fact, it maybe difficult to talk about social construction of gender apart from the social context in which it occurs; race/ethnicity, class, culture, religion are important in yielding an adequate understanding of the social construction of gendered people. Your assignment, if you choose to take it, is to investigate:
Cross-cultural differences in the social construction of gender (HOW ONE DOES woman and/or man in other societies)
A. List the two societies you are comparing. For example: Hispanic and German; Japanese and American; East African and Arabic.
