Event Overview
As literacy habits evolve with the explosion of technology, adolescent reading practices and preparedness for 21st century jobs become key issues for teachers. Building on discussions at the 2008 and 2009 Teaching Writing in Wyoming colloquiums, this institute will offer helpful information on current reading practices and pedagogical strategies for teachers across disciplines.
Participants will engage with national as well as local experts and have many opportunities to discuss effective practices for readers of varying levels of preparedness. Discussions will center on creating connections across disciplines and levels. This event will be particularly focused on high school and early-college instruction, although all are welcome!

Featured Speaker and Workshop Leader: David Jolliffe

David Jolliffe has broad experience with literacy instruction at all levels. He has created workshops and videos for elementary, secondary, and college teachers focusing on reading and literacy development. In addition, he has authored and edited several books and numerous articles focusing on teaching writing and reading, including Reading and Writing Analytically (2008), Everyday Use: Rhetoric at Work in Reading and Writing (2008), and Academic Writing: Genres, Samples, and Resources (2005).

Jolliffe will present his research of adolescent literacy and reading instruction Sunday evening, and lead a lunch discussion Monday afternoon. Monday morning will feature a resource fair and a variety of breakout sessions.
