Goals

 

Goals established November 2000

·        Influence public policy and national and international initiatives to promote and support  breast feeding women. 

·        Develop nursing education standards for lactation and breastfeeding.

·        Promote and disseminate nursing science in lactation and breastfeeding. 

 

Goals established in 2001

·        Produce and obtain Academy approval on a position paper on breastfeeding.

·        Assist USBC in recruiting the American Nurses Association as an additional organization.

·        Recruit additional Academy Followers to the Expert Panel on Breastfeeding.

·        Propose standards for Schools of Nursing relative to education of students on the importance of breastfeeding, the current barriers to successful breastfeeding and strategies for promoting and protecting breastfeeding. 

 

            Accomplishments

·        Membership on the United States Breastfeeding Committee, July 2001.

·        Participation on the Technical Workshop on Human Milk Surveillance and Research for Environmental Chemicals in the United States, October 2001; with subsequent publications in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health.
